Abdullah bin Zayed, Sri Lankan FM discuss boosting ties

Sharjah 24 – WAM: His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Vijitha Herath, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, during his working visit to Colombo.

Strengthening bilateral relations

The two ministers discussed the strong ties of friendship between the UAE and Sri Lanka and explored ways to enhance bilateral cooperation, particularly in development-focused sectors.

Expanding economic and developmental cooperation

The talks also covered opportunities to expand collaboration in key areas such as the economy, trade, tourism, and sustainable development. H.H. Sheikh Abdullah praised the distinguished relations between both nations and affirmed their shared commitment to leveraging mutual strengths.

Exchange of regional and international Views

Both sides exchanged perspectives on several regional and international issues of common interest, reinforcing their mutual understanding and cooperation in global affairs.

Establishing UAE-Sri Lanka Joint Business Council

Following their discussions, His Highness Sheikh Abdullah and Minister Herath witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Federation of UAE Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka.
The agreement aims to establish the UAE-Sri Lanka Joint Business Council, enhancing economic ties and facilitating business collaboration.

The meeting was attended by Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, Minister of State; Saeed Mubarak Al Hajeri, Assistant Minister for Economic and Trade Affairs; Abdullah Ahmed Balalaa, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Energy and Sustainability Affairs; and Khaled Nasser Al Ameri, UAE Ambassador to Sri Lanka.
