Sharjah24: In celebration of World Heritage Day, observed every year on April 18, the Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH) hosted a cultural event dedicated to Al Tagruda, the traditional art of camel chanting. Aisha Obaid Ghabish, Director of Events and Activities at the institute, stated that the event, titled “Tagruda: The Camel Chant,” took place in the Hisn Al Dhaid area, with the participation of local dignitaries, residents of the central region, and heritage enthusiasts. The location was chosen due to its Bedouin character and deep-rooted connection to camel culture.

The event included a seminar, a poetry evening, traditional chants, and a variety of workshops.

Tradition Revived Locally

Ghabish explained to “Sharjah24” that the institute selected Al Dhaid because of its historical relationship with camels. In the past, camel herders used to recite Tagruda during their travels, creating a lyrical bond with their animals.

Artistic Activities Included

The event featured a seminar, a poetic evening, and hands-on workshops. It also included a display of camel-related tools presented by participants from the UAE and the Sultanate of Oman, along with a traditional razfa folk performance.
