SIB Team champions of UOS’s tournament for charitable institutions

Sharjah 24: The University of Sharjah (UOS) wrapped up its inaugural Ramadan Football Tournament for charitable institutions in a thrilling finale that crowned the Sharjah Islamic Bank team as champions. The event, organised by the university’s Sports Activity Department under the Deanship of Student Affairs, brought together 14 teams representing prominent charitable institutions across the UAE, drawing an enthusiastic crowd of supporters.

Sharjah Islamic Bank clinched the top spot after an intense competition, while the Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi Charitable Foundation secured second place. Dar Al Ber Society rounded off the podium in third. Individual honours went to Muhannad Al-Aboudi, named the tournament’s best player, and Zaher Abdul Majeed, who won the best goalkeeper award for his stellar performance with Sharjah Islamic Bank.

In his remarks at the closing ceremony, His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, praised the players’ exceptional technical skills and physical abilities, as well as their sportsmanship and camaraderie throughout the tournament. He also acknowledged the vibrant community support that filled the stands during every match, underscoring the event’s success in fostering social unity and engagement.

Featured teams from leading charitable institutions

The tournament featured teams from leading charitable institutions such as Sharjah Charity International, Emirates Red Crescent, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Establishment, and Dubai’s Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation. These teams were divided into four groups through a draw, with 26 matches played in total. The initial group stage followed a round-robin format, with the top two teams from each group advancing to knockout rounds that culminated in a gripping final.

The closing ceremony was attended by senior university officials, including vice chancellors and college deans, alongside directors of sports clubs, representatives from participating organisations, and members of the local community. Families of players also turned out in large numbers to celebrate the spirit of competition and solidarity that defined this landmark event.

With its blend of athleticism and philanthropy, this thrilling tournament not only highlighted the sporting talents within the UAE’s charitable sector but also reinforced the values of generosity and community that resonate deeply during Ramadan.
