Sharjah 24 – AFP: Syria's interim president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, pledged accountability and an investigation following reports of mass killings of civilians in the coastal provinces of Latakia and Tartus. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that 830 civilians were killed in executions by security personnel or pro-government fighters. The violence erupted after clashes between new security forces and loyalists of the former Assad government.

International condemnation

The killings have drawn international condemnation from the United Nations, the Arab League, the United States, and Britain, who have all called for an immediate cessation of the violence. Sharaa announced that an independent committee would be formed to investigate the incidents and hold those responsible accountable.
