Ahmed Salim began his speech by common question, What are the scientific principles that underlie the cameras we use today? People will be surprised to learn that an Arab scholar from 1,000 years ago, Al Hassan Ibn Al Haytham, discovered how we see," said Ahmed Salim during the Xposure International Photography Festival.
Salim emphasised that Ibn Al Haytham used practical experiments to lay the foundations for modern optics. "He was the first to articulate that light travels in straight lines and constructed what we now recognise as the earliest reference to the camera obscura over a millennium ago," he explained.
At the Ibn Haytham pavilion, Salim invited festival-goers on a magical journey to uncover the mysteries of vision. "We’ll explore how the phones we carry and the cameras we use every day are built on the legacy of this remarkable Arab scholar," he stated.
