Sharjah 24 – WAM: Birzeit University celebrated its centennial in the UAE with a special event hosted by the SEE Institute at The Sustainable City in Dubai. The event was attended by prominent officials, including Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, Dr Talal Shahwan, President of Birzeit University, and other dignitaries from Palestine and Jordan.

Honouring Birzeit University’s legacy

This celebration, the first held outside Palestine, marked the university’s remarkable journey from its founding in 1924 as an elementary school for girls to becoming one of the leading academic institutions in the Arab world. The university continues to empower Palestinian youth and advance knowledge and research.

Sheikh Nahyan’s address

Sheikh Nahyan praised the university's resilience, emphasising its role in preserving Palestinian identity, fostering national consciousness, and shaping the future. He reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to supporting Palestine and institutions like Birzeit University that promote individual empowerment and societal progress.

Dr Talal Shahwan’s remarks

Dr Talal Shahwan highlighted the significance of the university’s centennial celebration and its legacy of resilience. He stressed the importance of education rooted in Palestinian culture and the pursuit of scientific research to address challenges and innovate solutions. He also expressed gratitude to Faris Saeed for hosting the event.

The ceremony concluded with heartfelt gratitude to Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak for his support and presence.
