Emirates Holding dominates third stage of the Women's Tour

Sharjah 24: The Emirates Holding team took control of the UAE Tour for Women's Cycling, with Italian rider Elisa Longo Borghini securing first place and her teammate Silvia Persico finishing second in the challenging third stage.

A strong performance by Borghini and Persico

The third stage, also known as the "Al Dar Stage," took place in Al Ain and was the most difficult of the tour. Borghini completed the 152 km stage in 3:56:31 hours, followed closely by Persico, who finished 35 seconds behind. Mauritian cyclist Kimberly Lee Court came in third. The two Italians displayed great teamwork, with Persico pulling the group up the ascent of Jebel Hafeet before Borghini launched her attack three kilometers from the finish line, claiming victory.

Standings after the third stage

With the third stage complete, Borghini moved into the overall lead with a total time of 10 hours, 11 minutes, and 29 seconds. Persico climbed into second place, 2:09 minutes behind, while Kimberly Lee Court placed third. Borghini also took the red jersey as overall leader and the green jersey as points leader.

Additional jersey winners

German cyclist Antonia Niedermayer claimed the white jersey for the best young cyclist, while Irish rider Lara Gillespie earned the black jersey for the medium speed stage. The winners were crowned by prominent officials, including His Excellency Aref Hamad Al Awani, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.
