Kenyan artist showcases his bracelet-making skills
Sharjah 24: At the African traditional handicrafts pavilion at the Sharjah Festival of African Literature (SFAL), Kenyan artist Jamal Njambe is attracting attention with his beautifully crafted bead bracelets. Each piece takes him about an hour and 20 minutes to create and reflects the rich heritage of African artistry.

Cultural designs inspired by the Kenyan and UAE flags

Many of Njambe’s bracelet designs incorporate the colors of the Kenyan flag – green, red, black, and white – which also resonate with the UAE flag. These designs have proven popular with festival attendees, making them a hit. Priced between 30 and 50 dirhams, the bracelets are more than just accessories; they carry cultural significance.

Sharing his craft with festival visitors

Beyond his artistry, Jamal is passionate about teaching his craft. At SFAL, he is engaging visitors, including children, in learning how to bead. This ties into the festival’s mission to promote cultural exchange and strengthen bonds between Africa and the UAE’s multicultural communities.

A multitalented artist

In addition to bracelet-making, Jamal is also an acrobat and juggler, performing regularly at events across the UAE. His diverse talents add another layer to the vibrant experience at SFAL.
