The eight-episode lifestyle and cooking show "With Love, Meghan" was set to debut on the streaming platform this Wednesday.
However, due to the ongoing wildfires that have claimed at least 16 lives in Los Angeles and destroyed thousands of homes, the premiere has been postponed until March. In a statement, Markle expressed gratitude to her partners at Netflix for their support in delaying the launch to focus on the needs of those affected by the wildfires in her home state of California.
Born in Los Angeles, Markle currently resides with Harry in Montecito, a luxurious coastal enclave about 100 miles (160 kilometers) northwest of the city.
A statement from Netflix described the show as a "heartfelt tribute to the beauty of Southern California." The delay was made at the request of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, with the full backing of Netflix, citing the ongoing devastation caused by the wildfires in Los Angeles.
Last week, Harry and Meghan were spotted in Pasadena, a Los Angeles suburb, comforting survivors of the fire. They also issued a statement encouraging Californians to open their homes to evacuees.
Their statement urged, "If a friend, loved one, or pet has to evacuate and you can offer them a safe haven in your home, please do."
While a publicist did not respond to requests for comment on whether the couple had hosted evacuees, a report from Britain's Telegraph indicated they were sheltering "friends and loved ones who have been displaced by the wildfires."
The couple reportedly donated "clothing, children's items, and other essential supplies" to those affected.
A trailer for "With Love, Meghan" showcased the former "Suits" star sharing tips on cooking, gardening, crafting, flower arranging, and hosting.
Guests on the show will include renowned chef Alice Waters, actress Mindy Kaling, and Markle's close friend Abigail Spencer, who co-starred with her in "Suits." Harry also makes a brief appearance in the trailer. Since stepping back from their official royal duties in early 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been financially independent, developing their own income sources.
Their partnership with Netflix previously resulted in the popular docuseries "Harry & Meghan," a six-episode series launched in December 2022.
In March 2024, Meghan is set to launch her lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard.
