Sharjah 24 – AFP: The Berlin International Film Festival will present Scottish actress Tilda Swinton with its prestigious Honorary Golden Bear next year. Festival director Tricia Tuttle praised Swinton's "breathtaking" range, describing her as "one of our modern filmmaking idols." The award will be given at the festival's opening ceremony on February 13, 2025.
Swinton, who has been a prominent figure at the Berlinale, expressed deep gratitude, recalling her first visit to the festival in 1986 with Derek Jarman's Caravaggio. She has starred in over 26 films at the event.

Swinton's career includes notable roles in Orlando, for which she gained international fame, and her Oscar-winning performance in Michael Clayton (2007). This year, she starred in Pedro Almodóvar's The Room Next Door.

The 2025 festival will open with the premiere of Das Licht by Tom Tykwer.
