Morten Frendrup's deflected strike in the 65th minute helped Genoa claim their third win since Patrick Vieira replaced Alberto Gilardino in November.
The victory moved Genoa up to 11th place, with 23 points, level with Roma, and five points above the relegation zone. Under Vieira, Genoa have lost just once in eight matches, with the only defeat coming against league leaders Napoli before Christmas.
The win came in front of Dan Sucu, who took over as Genoa's new majority shareholder after acquiring 77% of the club through a €45 million capital increase. This marked the end of the controversial ownership of 777 Partners, who had acquired Genoa in September 2021. Sucu's takeover has been contested by Advantage Capital (A-Cap), which claims to be Genoa's rightful owner.
Parma remains just one point above the relegation zone and faces critical upcoming matches against Venezia, Lecce, and Cagliari.
Later, Napoli could extend their lead at the top with a win over Verona, while injury-hit champions Inter aim to climb into second place with a victory against Venezia. Napoli will be without Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who reportedly wants to leave for Paris Saint-Germain.
