Fofana and Badiashile are both dealing with long-term injuries, ruling them out of Saturday’s match. Fofana suffered a hamstring injury against Aston Villa last month and is expected to miss several months. Maresca remains hopeful that the 24-year-old can recover sooner than expected but confirmed the 12-16 weeks recovery period.
Midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall will also be unavailable for the FA Cup match due to injury. The 26-year-old has made only five appearances for Chelsea since joining in July.
On a positive note, both Reece James and Romeo Lavia will be available for the game against Morecambe. Maresca confirmed that they are fit and could feature in the match.
Left back Ben Chilwell and midfielder Cesare Casadei will also miss the match as both are considering moves away from the club. Maresca mentioned that it’s better to avoid using them in such a situation.
Maresca emphasised that Dewsbury-Hall still has a future at Chelsea and will need to earn his place in the team, particularly if he is to stay or go out on loan.
Chelsea are currently on a four-match winless run across all competitions. Maresca is ready for the challenge against League Two club Morecambe, aiming to turn the team’s fortunes around.
