Sharjah24 - WAM: On Saturday, Mount Ibu in North Maluku, Indonesia, erupted, generating a cloud of smoke and ash four kilometers in length and spitting hot lava, according to an official.
Volcano Eruption on Halmahera Island
The volcano located on Halmahera Island erupted at 7:45 PM Eastern Indonesia time, sending a tall flaming column soaring into the sky.

Lava Flow Observations
"The lava was spotted two kilometers away from the eruption center," stated Muhammad Wafid, head of the Geological Agency, in a recent announcement.

Current Alert Level
The volcano remains at the second-highest alert level, indicating ongoing volcanic activity and the potential for further eruptions.

Safety Precautions
While there has been no new evacuation order, visitors and villagers have been instructed to vacate the area within a four to 5.5-kilometer radius from the volcano's peak.

Activity History
Ibu is recognised as one of Indonesia's most active volcanoes, having erupted more than 2,000 times in the previous year alone. As of 2022, more than 700,000 people lived on Halmahera Island, according to official figures.
