Sharjah 24: Sharjah Airport hosted a ceremony to celebrate the inaugural flight of Iraqi Airways. This addition brings the total number of airlines operating flights to Sharjah to 3, with Iraqi Airways offering three weekly flights between Baghdad and Sharjah on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays utilising Boeing B737 aircraft.
The event was attended, on Friday, by Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of the Sharjah Airport Authority; Dr Tahrir Mutashar Majid, Director and Accountant of the Dubai Office for Iraqi Airways; Mohammed Al-Dabbagh, Iraqi Airways Agent in Sharjah; and Khaled Walid Al Mansouri, Director of the External Promotion Department at the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, as well as several officials and directors from both parties.

Al Midfa confirmed that the addition of Iraqi Airways enhances the network of international destinations, linking Sharjah Airport with direct flights to more than 100 locations. New reciprocal flights between Sharjah and Baghdad enhance the airport's competitive position in attracting tourists, visitors, businessmen, and investors, as evidenced by the rise in total passenger numbers and the growth in air freight traffic and cargo handling.

He clarified that the airport is committed to improving the aviation and travel services system, in line with strategic plans, with the goal of increasing the annual passenger count to 25 million by the end of 2027. This initiative seeks to achieve the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and diversity through the implementation of cutting-edge smart digital systems, thereby ensuring a safe and innovative travel experience for all beneficiaries and stakeholders, including individuals and businesses.

Al Midfa stated that the authority focuses on improving the tourism and economic status of the emirate and is dedicated to bolstering the economic and commercial ties between the UAE and Iraq by streamlining aviation and travel services between the two nations.
