Sharjah 24: The Taekwondo team from Sharjah Women's Sports Club made a strong showing at the Qatar International Open Taekwondo Championship, returning with eight medals from the event held over three days at Lusail Hall in Doha. The competition saw a record participation of 1,440 athletes from 40 countries.
The team claimed a gold medal through champion Yumna Yasser in the under-37 kg category, along with three silver medals: Haya Saqr in the under-40 kg category, Fawzia Khalid Al Balushi in the under-52 kg category, and Shaima Mohammed Al Zaabi in the under-73 kg category.
They also secured four bronze medals: Aya Al Marzouqi in the under-48 kg category, Maria Badr in the under-37 kg category, Rania Al Nuaimi in the under-55 kg category, and Salma Najib Al Zaabi in the under-33 kg category.
Balqis Al Shehhi, Head of the Individual Games Department at Sharjah Women's Sports Club, expressed her satisfaction with the team's performance. She noted that the tournament provided valuable experience, enabling the athletes to learn new techniques and strategies in the sport.
Al Shehhi highlighted that this competition served as excellent preparation for future events, and she anticipates a strong season for the club's Taekwondo athletes, supported by their ongoing training and the club's continuous backing.
