Sharjah 24 - Reuters: Dmitry Medvedev, a senior Russian security official and former president, cautioned the U.S. on Saturday to take Russia's nuclear warnings seriously to prevent World War Three.
As deputy chairman of Russia's Security Council, Medvedev expressed concern that U.S. officials underestimate Russia's resolve. "They are wrong," he stated, criticizing Western leaders for lacking the foresight of figures like Henry Kissinger.
He emphasized that if Russia's existence is threatened, it will have no choice but to respond. The ongoing war in Ukraine has reached a perilous phase, with Russian forces advancing in the east and rising tensions over Western military support for Ukraine.
Medvedev's remarks come as Russia signals that it will respond if the U.S. and its allies provide Ukraine with longer-range missile capabilities. U.S. officials acknowledge the deteriorating relationship with Russia, yet maintain that they do not seek to escalate the conflict.
