Sharjah24 - AFP: A strong earthquake struck off the western coast of the United States on Wednesday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, but no tsunami warning has been issued.
The earthquake, which had a magnitude of 6, was centered along a fault line under the Pacific Ocean, approximately 279 kilometers from the city of Bandon in Oregon.
There were no immediate reports of damage, and a computer simulation from the institute indicated that structures in the area were unlikely to be affected.
Seismologists initially determined the earthquake's depth to be 10 kilometers, based on standard settings for shallow earthquakes, which will be updated as more data becomes available.
Several fault lines extend along and near the western coast of the United States, forming part of a larger network around the world's largest ocean, known as the "Ring of Fire" in the Pacific.
