UAE , Greece authors describe their novels at Thessaloniki

Hosted by the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) within the Sharjah pavilion, and moderated by Greek author Chloe Koutsoubeli, the panel featured Emirati author and visual artist Maryam Masoud Al Shehhi and Greek author Amanda Michalopoulou. They explored the themes and societal impacts of Arab and Greek novels, with a focus on how Emirati female writers have addressed social issues like divorce, separation, and gender equality in their literary works.

The importance of nurturing the future of women’s literature
Al Shehhi noted that the cultural openness of society within the UAE presents new perspectives for Emirati writers, who must adapt by conducting thorough research, introspection, and experimentation in their narratives. Amanda Michalopoulou highlighted that women’s writing in Greece has unique characteristics, noting the confidence with which Greek female authors share their personal experiences and portray emotional themes.

The discussion also touched on the importance of nurturing the future of women’s literature in Greece through education, advocating for the inclusion of women's literary works in educational curricula to inspire and empower the next generation of writers. This strategic approach aims to offer young readers exemplary female voices to emulate and learn from.

She pointed out that the future of women's literature in Greece depends on investing in educating the new generations and strengthening the representation and presence of women's literary work in educational curricula. The author stressed that this approach would provide upcoming generations with leading examples of female writers, offering experiences they could emulate.

Sharjah is the first Arab Guest of Honour at the Thessaloniki International Book Fair, a recognition of its significant contributions to promoting Arab and global culture.
