SCC committee reviews Fish Resources Authority works

Sharjah 24: The Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Municipalities, Security and Public Utilities Affairs Committee of Sharjah Consultative Council (SCC) discussed plans and policies to revive and advance the fishing profession in the Emirate of Sharjah, and the efforts made to develop this sector, during its visit, on Tuesday, to the Sharjah Fish Resources Authority at its headquarters in the city of Sharjah.
The committee discussed all the roles played by the Authority, the events and activities it organises, and its continuing efforts to preserve and develop fish wealth.

The committee visit came within the framework of preparation for discussing the policy of the Sharjah Fish Resources Authority by SCC during a public session that is currently being prepared as part of the Council’s work for the first regular session of the eleventh legislative term.

The meeting, which was held at the Authority’s headquarters, was chaired by Ahmed Rashid Al Shamsi, rapporteur of the committee, and was attended by members Majid Ahmed Al Darwishi Al Shamsi, Sultan bin Dalmouk Al Suwaidi, Fatima Muhammad Khasuni Al Ketbi, Ahmed Obaid Al Awasiyah Al Zaabi, and Salem Muhammad Al Rashidi, in addition to Jassim Al Hinawi Al Naqbi, member of the Council, Chairman of the Committee for Preparing the Draft Recommendations, and from the General Secretariat of the Council, Amna Basalib, Sessions Affairs Officer, Secretary of the Committee, and Islam Al Shiwi, media expert.

While the committee was received by His Excellency Ali Ahmed Abu Ghazin, Member of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Sharjah, Chairman of the Sharjah Fish Resources Authority, and his assistants from various department directors and heads of departments in the Authority.
At the beginning of the visit, Ahmed Rashid Al Shamsi, Chairman of the Committee, conveyed peace and greetings from the Chairman and members of the Council to the Chairman and cadres of the Authority, praising the great role that the Authority plays in achieving fish food security and preserving fish wealth, which is one of the important resources in the Emirate of Sharjah.
He pointed out that this visit comes within the framework of the committee’s preparation to discuss the Authority’s policy during the next session, and therefore the importance of reviewing the various programs and plans and preparing axes that would enable and assist the Authority to perform its role and the responsibilities and tasks it undertakes in supporting fishing-related activities and following up on the efforts of fishermen. Paying attention to legislation related to local affairs.
For his part, His Excellency Ali Ahmed Abu Ghazin welcomed the visit of the members of the Advisory Council from the Utilities Committee and the Council’s keenness to enhance its cooperation and visits to all government departments and bodies in Sharjah and develop their roles, pointing to the importance of the efforts made by the Council’s Public Utilities Committee and all committees in their keenness to enhance the competitiveness of the Emirate of Sharjah. In all specific sectors and improving the roles of all entities working in these sectors.
Abu Ghazien briefed the members on the different efforts of the Sharjah Fish Resources Authority and its programmes in working to develop fish resources in cooperation with fishermen’s associations and concerned authorities, and their research and study efforts and developing suggestions and solutions for any problems related to fish resources.

Abu Ghazien pointed out that the Authority was established in 2022 with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, as an extension of His Highness’s consideration of giving importance to the fisheries sector and preserving the activity and work of fishermen.

SCC members discussed mechanisms to enhance the Council’s cooperation with the Authority to enable it to perform its effective and important role.

Ideas were exchanged and presented towards finding new proposals for a number of important visions and the effectiveness of participation, the results of which are reflected in raising awareness of the importance of preserving fish wealth using the means available to the Emirate of Sharjah.
