Russia on Saturday said it had evacuated over 4,000 people in the Orenburg region, near Kazakhstan, following flooding caused by a dam burst.
Emergency services responded after the dam in Orsk ruptured due to heavy rain. More than 2,500 homes were impacted, with authorities opening a criminal case for negligence related to the dam's construction in 2014.

Orenburg's governor stated the dam was ill-equipped for the heavy rainfall, leading to the breach. The Ural River in Orenburg faced dangerous water levels, prompting warnings and potential forced evacuations. The mayor urged residents to leave immediately to avoid heightened risks.

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev described the floods as one of Kazakhstan's worst natural disasters in 80 years, urging preparedness and assistance.

Russian emergency services deployed rescue teams via boats and hovercraft to aid affected regions in the Urals and western Siberia.
