Sharjah 24 – AFP: After Bayern Munich's recent defeat, Bayer Leverkusen is on the brink of securing the German Football League title for this season. They took a significant step towards this achievement by defeating Union Berlin 1-0 in the 28th round of the competition on Saturday.
Florian Wirtz's goal in the eighth minute of stoppage time in the first half sealed the victory for Leverkusen. With this win, Leverkusen extended their lead over defending champions Bayern Munich to 16 points with six rounds remaining in the Bundesliga.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich suffered their sixth loss of the season against Heidenheim, leaving them at 60 points in second place and jeopardizing their chances of winning the title for the 12th consecutive time. Heidenheim's victory propelled them to tenth place in the league standings.

Bayern Munich initially took the lead with goals from Harry Kane and Serge Gnabry, but Heidenheim mounted a comeback with three goals from Kevin Sessa and Tim Kleinist, securing an unexpected win.

In other matches, Leipzig defeated Freiburg 4-1, maintaining their position in fourth place, while Mainz secured a convincing 4-0 victory against Darmstadt and Cologne narrowly defeated Bochum 2-1.

During the Leverkusen-Union Berlin match, Leverkusen displayed early dominance, with goalkeeper Frederic Renault making crucial saves for Hertha Berlin. However, Leverkusen capitalized on their chances, and Wirtz's goal proved decisive.

Despite Union Berlin's efforts to equalize, Leverkusen's solid defense held firm, securing their 41st consecutive match without defeat in all competitions this season. This victory puts Leverkusen in a strong position to clinch the league title, marking a remarkable achievement for the club.
