Sharjah 24: In support of the slogan “Embracing Nature through Sports,” and among one of the best natural tourist destinations in the Emirate of Sharjah, Al Badayer Oasis hosted the Activities of the 15th Gulf Festival of Sports for All, with distinguished Gulf participation.
The events included an array of activities that focused on the concept of compatibility between sports and the environment, where Gulf athletes actively participated in riding on camels, and learned about the secrets contained in this sport that stem from the long relationship between humans in the desert and camels. They also learned about falconry, the types of falcons, and methods of taming them, and the activities concluded with practicing archery.
On this occasion, Abdulaziz Al Matroushi, Chairman of the Festival’s Technical Committee, said: “We are overwhelmed with happiness at the presence of our Gulf brothers in their second country, the UAE, as they get to know the natural areas of Sharjah, and practice activities that enhance the sustainability of the environment, and set out to make it an ongoing way of life, through activities and initiatives that will take Gulf sports to high international sports standards from just the concept of health and fitness to the concept of friendship with the beautiful natural environment that is common in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.”
In a related context, Counselor Ahmed Al Mahmoud presented the Gulf Innovation Laboratory workshop for sustainable community sports, indicating that its objectives are based on 3 capabilities and 3 results, explaining that the capabilities include: knowing the impact of directing sports, harmonisation with quality of life, optimal utilisation of public facilities, readiness of sports institutions, and enhancing physical and psychological health in the community, while the results contain sports initiatives linked to family and community quality of life indicators, initiatives to index sports clubs participation, sports initiatives and indicators linked to enhancing community health.
At the end of the workshop, an illustrative example of the impact of directing sports, harmonisation with quality of life, and optimal use of public facilities was explained, with brainstorming, after which the participants submitted proposals concerned with legal, international, social, economic, environmental, and technological fields.
