Sharjah24 – Reuters: Peru has turned into the birdiest country in the world with 1,879 species registered in its territory, surpassing former leader Colombia, official sources said on Thursday.
Commenting on this, Fernando Angulo, President of Peruvian Union of Ornithologists stated, "We had 1,860 species as of yesterday (January 3) and this has now increased to 1,879. Fourteen have been announced in this bulletin and five more species have been announced by the Peruvian Bird Records Committee as being new to Peru."
The new record will be sent to the South America Bird Committee for review and approval.
