Sharjah24: The University of Coimbra in Portugal partakes in the 42nd Sharjah International Book Fair, showcasing historical artefacts embodying the Portuguese and the Gulf history between the 16th and 17th centuries.
Roger Lee de Jesus, Researcher University of Coimbra, explains that the exhibition consists of seven sections showcasing historical artefacts, reproductions and originals, such as manuscripts, maps, nautical instruments, rare books, and other artefacts accompanied by a precise explanation, covering the Portuguese arduous voyages, their arrival to the Gulf, and how they perceived the region.

The collections are preserved at the University of Coimbra, and they are presented and explained by historians and experts.

Roger added to “Sharjah 24” that the exhibition highlights two items of its displayed collections, an 18th-century mariner’s compass and a Lisbon’s panoramic view engraving from the 17th century. These two items are shown for the first time to the world at SIBF.
