Sharjah24: The Sharjah Self-Defense Sports Club (SSDSC's) Board of Directors presented colorful awards to the players who placed first in the recently finished Qatar International Taekwondo Championship (QITC), which attracted competitors from all over the world.
This came during the ceremony organised by the Club in the presence of His Excellency Abdulrahman Al Owais, Chairman of the Board of Directors, His Excellency Obaid Al Asem Al Suwaidi, Member of the Board of Directors, Director of the Sports Training Department, as well as several dignitaries, coaches, and the families of the players.
Al Owais expressed pleasure with the progress made by the Taekwondo team during the competition, noting that the players' seven colored medals won represented the best international accomplishment for Taekwondo players in a foreign tournament. In addition to winning international medals, he said that the participation resulted in many other benefits, including a new record for Emirati sports and the Emirate of Sharjah in self-defense sports.
He has further emphasised that interacting with highly skilled foreign players is a significant advantage.
Al Owais explained that winning the distinguished international medals strengthened the pursuit of stronger participation in the future. He concluded that the Sports Training Department was directed to study aspects of the Taekwondo team’s participation, in line with the national talent development program.
