Sharjah 24: The world celebrates World Habitat Day on October 2. Sharjah has made tremendous efforts to improve its housing sector, offering safe and acceptable dwellings for its population and adopting smart solutions to increase residents' well-being and enjoyment.
His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah has shown a keen interest in developing the emirate's housing sector. The emirate's Executive Council, chaired by Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, is actively monitoring this pledge.
Government objectives include comprehensive housing support and development measures aimed at elevating the housing process in the rich emirate. The goal is to provide housing assistance to all Emirati citizen families, ensuring a safe and stable life. This dedication falls on World Habitat Day, which is observed around the world.
Since 2012, the Sharjah Housing Programme has met Emirati residents' housing needs. To serve different groups, it offers new building, completion, home acquisition, addition, maintenance, and ready-to-occupy government housing. Furthermore, the programme has created housing alternatives for non-nuclear families to address all housing needs.
The Sharjah Housing Programme has started many projects in different towns and districts of Sharjah with residential complexes with distinct exterior styles to suit different tastes. They also plan 15 residential projects.
Over the previous decade, the programme has helped 11,503 people with housing subsidies worth over 10 billion dirhams. The support includes 5,914 grants costing 5.6 billion dirhams and 5,589 loans totaling 4.3 billion dirhams.
According to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi's decision to speed up housing support and enhance Emirati families' living situations, 1,452,362 loan beneficiaries have been changed to grants.
Sharjah Housing Programme provides modern, government-approved home designs for fast execution. The programme's website and mobile app offer a variety of facades and layouts to suit different demands. They also responded to over 12,000 recommendations and inquiries using an intelligent inquiry mechanism, demonstrating stakeholder satisfaction. The programme also holds ISO certifications in management systems, partner relations, and occupational health and safety, demonstrating their commitment to quality.
The "Isnad" initiative helps recipients with housing support issues such as design and construction expenses or personal conditions prohibiting oversight. The Sharjah dwelling programme coordinates construction and monitoring and offers approximately 280 approved dwelling designs that can be implemented in one year using housing support money, according to programme me restrictions and limitations.
With over 920 applications, "Isnad" has garnered stakeholder interest. 382 projects have been finished and handed over, while 183 projects worth 492 million dirhams are underway. These activities demonstrate dedication to strategic goals and Emirati family well-being. The programme also uses green concrete instead of cement to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and lengthen the lifespan of concrete structures.
Temporary housing management, 4,436 rental aid packages for low-income individuals, and chartered home rehabilitation improve neighbourhood family stability in response to emergencies. Additionally, 5,426 Sharjah homes have an early fire alarm system.
The programme applies principles of continuous improvement and development to deliver the best services to its citizens, strengthen partnerships with the private sector, and provide sustainable housing support that meets the highest global housing standards and criteria for Emirati families in Sharjah.
