Sharjah24: Russian agricultural researchers grow watermelons in one of the coldest places on Earth, Antarctica. Scientists at Antarctic Vostok Station stressed that the institute was able to grow watermelon in special glass greenhouses despite extremely cold temperatures, low atmosphere pressure, and oxygen levels.
The Vostok Station is located at the southern Pole of Cold which is classified as the coldest place on Earth -89°C (-128°F). Scientists picked a suitable species of watermelon based on its ability to grow despite low atmosphere pressure and oxygen levels

Andrei Teplyakov, Head Geophysicist of AARI at Vostok Station stated, "Antarctic Vostok Station welcomes you. We've managed to grow watermelons here for the first time."

Andrei Teplyakov added, "They measure between 10 to 13 centimeters in diameter and weight between 0,8 to 1 kilogram. Each day everyone visited the watermelons and observed their growth with great interest."
