Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi chairs Sharjah Media Council’s meeting

Sharjah 24: Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Sharjah Media Council (SMC), chaired the council's meeting, which was held at the House of Wisdom in Sharjah.
At the beginning of the meeting, the council expressed thanks and appreciation to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, for His Highness’s constant interest in the media sector and His Highness's continuous support for all initiatives and programmes launched by the council and the institutions under it, in addition to issuing a Decree with regard to forming the council.



The council discussed a number of important issues related to the work of the media sector in the Emirate of Sharjah, and took a number of decisions regarding its continued development and success.

The meeting reviewed a report on the work of the Sharjah Media City (Shams), which included developments in commercial licensing, ongoing media projects in it, and its achievements, as well as some statistics related to the its social media channels and various events.



The meeting dealt with a report of the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority (SBA), which reviewed the progress of work in the seventh edition of its programme for training future generations in media, extending for 4 weeks, with 110 male and female students are trained in the main building of the authority. In addition to the building of Al Wusta channel in Al Dhaid, and the Sharjah channel building in Kalba. 

The programme aims to develop practical and applied skills in the media field, and to provide promising opportunities for young people in the media field. The focus during training is on a number of basic skills related to presentation, media education, photography, montage and other applied media fields.



The meeting reviewed a report by the Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB), which included a number of programmes and projects, such as a project studying government communication practice in local departments in the Emirate. 

The project aims to develop the government communication in the Emirate and qualify media cadres. 



The report also included a programne to support graduates seeking work in the media field, in coordination with the Human Resources Department, which aims to provide graduates with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in the labour market.

The meeting witnessed the attendance of His Excellency Dr. Khalid Omar Al Midfa, Chairman of the Sharjah Media City (Shams), His Excellency Mohammed Hassan Khalaf, Director General of the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority (SBA), His Excellency Tariq Saeed Allay, Director General of the Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB), His Excellency Hassan Yaqoub Al Mansoori, Secretary General of the Sharjah Media Council (SMC), His Excellency Rashid Abdullah Al Obed, Director of the Sharjah Media City (Shams), His Excellency Salem Ali Hamad Al Ghaithi, Director of the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority (SBA), and Hessa Abdullah Al Hammadi, Assistant Secretary-General of the Sharjah Media Council (SMC).
