Sharjah Ruler attends RSAD conference

Sharjah24: His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah attended the start of activities for the international scientific conference "Rare Syndromes Associated with Disability (RSAD)" this morning at the Student Forum at the University of Sharjah, which is being organised by the Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services in collaboration with the University of Sharjah and the Ministry of Health and Prevention in the United Arab Emirates.
The primary goals of this ground-breaking conference are to increase awareness among medical professionals about the most recent advances in medical, practical, educational, and rehabilitative practises for people with rare syndromes associated with disabilities, and to provide a forum for the exchange of information and ideas among those working in the field.
 
Director of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services Mona Abdul Karim Al Yafei spoke at the conference's opening. She thanked His Highness, the Ruler of Sharjah, for sponsoring the conference, which brings attention to a part of society that has been overlooked and hasn't gotten enough help in the form of education and rehabilitation.
 
"We hope that this conference will be a watershed moment in the methodology of dealing with rare syndromes associated with disability and interest in scientific research to provide suitable solutions about the challenges that some may face with regard to diagnosis and how to transmit experience and knowledge about the syndrome to families," Al-Yafei continued.
 
Sheikha Jameela bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Director General of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS), has directed and overseen the planning and execution of this conference to highlight the local, Arab, and global role of the City for Humanitarian Services through initiatives to introduce everything new, gain from experiences, and highlight the best international scientific practices in this field.
 
Dr. Hamid Majul Al Nuaimi, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, highlighted the importance of the conference's topic and goals in his opening remarks, noting that it represents a scientific precedent and aims to raise awareness of the most cutting-edge Arab and international practises for supporting and rehabilitating people with rare syndromes, thereby improving the quality of their lives and the lives of their families.
 
Adding to the university's pioneering position in serving society and humanity, Al Nuaimi emphasised the university 's efforts to improve partnerships with all societal entities.
 
Following that, Dr Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Under-Secretary for the Public Health Sector at the Ministry of Health and Prevention, delivered a speech in which he thanked His Highness, the Ruler of Sharjah, for his unwavering commitment to improving public health and the standing of all segments of society.
 
Al-Rand mentioned that many rare diseases go unnoticed because they don't affect a sizable portion of the population, and he emphasised that everyone, regardless of age, gender, socioeconomic position, or disease, has the right to receive treatment and care.
 
The Director of the UAE Genome Programme, Dr Ahmed Hassan Al-Awadi, highlighted the ongoing research and development efforts across a wide range of scientific and technological disciplines within the country in an effort to meet any and all challenges head-on through scientific and proactive investigation.
 
According to Al-Awadhi, "The UAE Genome Programme is a national research project that seeks to develop a genetic map for citizens of the UAE in order to expedite the development of healthcare, preventive, and specialised care solutions."
 
His Highness Following the opening ceremony, the Ruler of Sharjah posed for a photo with the conference's government and private sector sponsors and partners.
On the sidelines of the main event, His Highness visited the conference's supporting technology expo, where cutting-edge tools for accommodating a wide range of disabilities were on display.

His Highness listened to an explanation of what was included in the exhibition's pillars, which aimed to raise awareness of the various types of supportive technologies and reach the maximum number of beneficiaries from them to support independence in life and daily activities, raise the level of skills, support community participation, raise awareness of the facilities for financing technical solutions for beneficiaries, and support and promote partnerships with local and international companies.
 
The conference employs a hybrid online and in-person approach to present cutting-edge research and cutting-edge practise in the areas of medicine, education, counselling, and the arts. It features 86 presenters and 98 attendees from 63 different schools and 17 different countries.
 
The conference is aimed at workers in the field of special education, organisations, medical and specialty centres, physicians of different specialisations and workers in the medical professions, families of people with uncommon conditions, scholars and graduate students in colleges and research centres concerned with disability research, members of the media and arts sector in all its areas, and leaders in institutions and disability agencies.
 
Attended the conference alongside His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Dr. Abdulaziz Saeed Al Muhairi, Chairman of the Sharjah Health Authority; Muhammad Obaid Al Zaabi, Head of the Protocol and Hospitality Department; Tariq Saeed Allay, Director General of the Sharjah Government's Media Bureau; and Abdulaziz Tarim, Director General of "Etisalat by e&" in the Northern Emirates; Head of Sharjah Media City "Shams," as well as a number of top officials and experts attended the conference.
