Sharjah 24: His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah, witnessed at the University of Sharjah (UoS) today, Tuesday, the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the University of Sharjah and the Sharjah University Hospital (SUH).
The memorandum was signed by Dr Abdulaziz Saeed Al Muhairi, Chairman of the University Hospital Board of Trustees, and Dr Hamid Majul Al Nuaimi, Chancellor of the UoS.
The parties have agreed to work together in a number of areas to improve healthcare, education, and public health. These include expanding the reach of specialised medical and scientific research for the benefit of the community and establishing a variety of training programmes for students and medical personnel to produce graduates capable of providing high-quality medical services in accordance with international standards.
Clinical training for students from the faculties of medicine and health sciences at the University Hospital in Sharjah, under the supervision and evaluation of healthcare professionals from the hospital and faculty members from the university, with the aim of meeting standards, is one of the main tenets of the memorandum of understanding between the two parties to foster scientific and clinical research through university-hospital collaboration, and to train a generation of outstanding physicians who are up to the task of their practical and academic responsibilities.
The memorandum also states that the University of Sharjah will provide various equipment and educational materials for the training process, as well as specialised and advanced programmes for hospital staff to qualify them to apply modern clinical teaching and evaluation methodologies in medical education, to ensure the quality of clinical training processes required for students to achieve various effective evaluations.
The MoU will keep the hospital and the university in constant contact and help them share their experiences. This will allow the University Hospital of Sharjah to directly help improve the quality of training for future health workers. It will also give doctors access to academic resources, such as a medical library, online databases, and medical journals.
Medical research and education are two areas in which the two parties have agreed to work together over the course of the memorandum's three-year duration in order to improve healthcare and train future professionals. In order to help the medical field in the emirate grow and attract more people, the University of Sharjah will help hospital staff get training and share information.
Then, His Highness, the President of the University of Sharjah, graciously accepted a gift from Abdul Aziz Saeed Al Muhairi and gave the university's memorial shield to the Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the University Hospital.
