Commenting on this, Chantal Dussiaume, Ottawa resident stated, "I think it's the first year. I can't remember the canal not opening in wintertime. And I'm 57 So it's like wow."
A tourist added, "I am coming from Bermuda. So this is my first time being in Ottawa and I've heard so much about the canal and it would have been nice to go skating on the canal. I guess the best I could do now is just have a look and just walk through the trail ways."
