Sharjah 24 – Reuters: Japanese robotics startup Tmsuk announced last month that it has developed the SPD1 robot, made to carry out inspections of Japan’s ageing sewage system, as the industry grapples with a labour shortage.
Yuji Kawakubo, Tmsuk CEO, said, “We have developed SPD1 as a robot to inspect sewage. Right now, robots with wheels are mainly used (for sewage inspections), but there are places that are difficult to move and inspect with the wheel type. So we developed this one with legs to solve that problem.”
The robot is equipped with a 360-degree camera system and eight legs, which allows it to move around sediments and other obstacles. Tmsuk plans to put SPD1 on the market in 2024.
Tmsuk CEO added, “Currently, we are developing the SPD1 for inspection purposes. In future, we hope it will be able to carry out not just inspections, but also carry out simple repairs, which is currently being done by humans.”
