Sharjah 24 – WAM: Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, visited the Russian School of Abu Dhabi, which was inaugurated on 7th September, 2022, under the directives of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court.
The Russian minister toured the corridors of the school, which is the product of cooperation with The Primokov School, one of the most prestigious government educational institutions in Moscow.
Lavrov was accompanied by a delegation that included Mikhail Bogdanov, Deputy Foreign Minister and Russian President's Envoy to the Middle East and Africa, and Maria Zakharova, Official Spokeswoman of Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Present from the UAE side were Dr. Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of Education, Dr. Mohammed Ahmed bin Sultan Al Jaber, UAE Ambassador to Russia, Dr. Abdullah Mograby, Under-Secretary of the Studies and Research Sector at the Presidential Court, and Dr. Souad Al Suwaidi, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Russian School of Abu Dhabi.
Dr. Mohammed Al Jaber said that the UAE attaches special importance to the education sector, noting that the opening of the Russian School in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi is part of the keenness of the UAE leadership and Abu Dhabi government to develop education and learn about other cultures.
For her part, Dr. Al Suwaidi said that the Russian School of Abu Dhabi is an Emirati school that integrates both the Russian and UAE national curricula, as well as English language courses.
The Russian School's Director, Olesia Damirovna Popenkova, said that the Russian School of Abu Dhabi is the first Emirati educational institution to offer the Russian curriculum in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, adding that she is looking forward to seeing other branches open in other emirates.
