Sharjah24 - AFP: On Sunday, Torino stunned AC Milan 2-1 to increase their Serie A lead to five points as they pursue their goal of winning the championship for the first time in more than three decades.
The reigning league champions Milan were on a run of four straight victories when they lost against Torino, dropping them to third place and six points behind Napoli. Koffi Djidji and Aleksei Miranchuk each scored twice in the first half to give Torino the victory.
Atalanta has passed Stefano Pioli's team and is now one point in front of Milan as a result of their 2-0 victory over Empoli in Sunday's early game.
The main winners of the weekend, however, were Napoli, who opened play on Saturday with yet another barrage of goals and are starting to appear like a squad capable of bringing the trophy to Naples for the first time since 1990.
"We lacked true quality, were unprepared, and weren't present while the game was being adjusted. Both in our own zones and those of the opponent, we were bad "Pioli said to DAZN.
After their fifth victory of the year, Torino, who had only scored twice at home all season, moved up to ninth place. The game nearly reached its boiling point when Junior Messias' goal for the opposition midway through the second half.
Alessandro Buongiorno of Milan scored his second goal of the year thanks to a terrible mix-up involving goalie Vanja Milinkovic-Savic and the Italian, as well as what appeared to be a definite push from Lionel Messias.
Ivan Juric, the coach of Torino, lost his temper when his team held out for a sizable victory despite his irate complaints that no foul had been called.
"It is finished. Now I'm content "Prior to admitting he was mistaken about Messias' goal after seeing video with DAZN's analysts, Juric made the statement.
It "seemed a lot worse from my angle at the time... life's weird like that."
