Sharjah24 – AFP: The MSC World Europa, MSC's first LNG-powered cruise ship, is celebrated during a ceremony in Saint-Nazaire, France, before its departure for Qatar, where it will serve as a floating hotel during the World Cup.
Commenting on this, Laurent Castaing, Chantiers de l'Atlantique's General Manager said, "We have reduced CO2 emissions by 20 to 25% and thanks to the use of LNG (liquefied natural gas, ed), we have reduced our emissions by another 20%, so that today a ship like this one emits almost half the amount of CO2 per person per day than we did 10 years ago."
He added, "Today, our order book only includes ships that can use either LNG (liquefied natural gas, ed) or methanol. So today, the so-called green version of these fuels, that is non-emitting, does not yet exist, but as soon as we have these fuels in zero-emission form, we will be able to use them and have zero-emission ships."
