Tower of London moat in bloom for Platinum Jubilee

May 31, 2022 / 8:28 AM
Sharjah24 – Reuters: To create the 'Superbloom' installation, horticulturalists in March planted 20 million seeds in the moat around the thousand-year-old Tower, home to the Crown jewels.
The project has been three years in the making and involved moving 10,800 metric tons of soil into the moat and installing a lighting and sound system.

"It's the biggest change to the moat since the Duke of Wellington drained it in 1845," the director of public engagement at Historic Royal Palaces, Tom O'Leary told Reuters on Monday (May 30).

Due to a chilly start to the season, the full display of flowers have not blossomed in time for the start of the Jubilee week but are expected to continue growing throughout the summer.

The Superbloom installation opens to the public on June 1.
