'Don't Look Up' could be down for Oscars' biggest award

Sharjah24 – Reuters: 'Don't Look Up' is one of the 10 contenders vying for best picture at the upcoming Academy Awards.
The comedy film is a cautionary tale about not listening to scientists.

During an interview, the film's writer and director Adam McKay, said "What the movie is really about is all the effed up, bizarre, strange, dysfunctional ways that we now talk to each other, through social media, TV, you know, career, workplace, gossip and at root, what ended up happening was that it really allowed me to discover what the movie was really about, which is that we've destroyed the way that we talk to each other as a species, as a community and that's the key that needs to be fixed in order for us to fix these other problems."

Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence play scientists who discover that the Earth is going to be hit by a meteor, which will end all life on the planet.

However, the pair struggle to get their message across to media and even the president of the United States, played by Meryl Streep.

DiCaprio got on board as the film deals with an issue close to his heart - climate change.

The film, which was written during the pandemic, echoes much of the pushback against scientific evidence provided by medical experts surrounding the coronavirus.

But that's not all. Other elements in McKay's screenplay also predicted the future.
