Sharjah24 – Reuters: Filmmaker Adam McKay has assembled an all-star cast to give a humorous warning about climate change, politics and more in the new film "Don't Look Up".
Actors Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio portray "two low-level astronomers, who must go on a giant media tour to warn mankind of an approaching comet that will destroy planet earth."
Comedy ensues as their message continues to fall on deaf ears.
McKay said his goal was to share a political message both sides would find funny.
"The great thing about test screening the movie was right, left wing were all laughing. So, I think the commonality we're going for here is like, what have we done to each other? I mean, this polarization and this nonsense like, come on, can't we get back to basics?" he explained.
Meryl Streep said the film's plot is simple, "look up…we know what's coming and we know we can do something about it."
McKay encouraged the cast to improv during filming, and learned a little know fact about Streep.
"Turns out, Meryl Streep is one of the great improvisers I've ever seen. I had no idea. I mean, we all know she's one of the, you know, maybe the greatest film actor ever. She can improvise all day long. And Jonah Hill and I were like, Oh my god. So, there's some stuff she improvised that was cut out of the movie that I would love to release that."
The film also stars Tyler Perry, Jonah Hill, Cate Blanchett and Ariana Grande.
"Don't Look Up" will be released in theaters on December 10th and will begin streaming on Netflix December 24.
