At a panel discussion held on the sidelines of the opening day of the anime-themed extravaganza at Aljada, Sharjah, Abdulrahman Al Ali, founder of the Anime Store in Umm Al Quwain, described how from humble beginnings in 2016, the store has since emerged as a nationwide sensation, going on to participate in 26 comic conventions, exhibitions and other related events across the country till date.
In a session moderated by Faisal Al Qudra and Bisher Zamot, Al Ali said: “Anime is not purely entertainment; it often has important underlying messages and values that leave a strong impact on viewers and can even transform lives. In the silent anime project that I worked on during my university years, I have attempted to capture this deeply moving essence of anime.”
Passion is the path to success
The Anime Store founder said that launching the venture brought together his love for anime and his entrepreneurial ambition, and advised the youth at SHASHAH 2022 to follow suit and let their passions guide them in their endeavours. Revealing the key to his success, he said: “My goal of sparking joy and igniting the same passion that I have for anime in each and every person who steps through the doors of my store has led me to where I am today.”
Exploring the joys of the world of anime, Al Ali gave a lively overview of some of the most celebrated series – explaining their role in the resurgence of the genre in popular culture – as well as the most beloved characters and the most widely enjoyed video games.
SHASHAH, which runs until Sunday, February 13, is connecting the anime community across Sharjah and the UAE through an exciting range of workshops, cosplays, competitions, talks, films, and more. This year’s edition of SHASHAH is a playground of anime-themed activities where children and youth can express themselves through their talent and learn new skills.
