Sharjah24 - Reuters: The cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the United States has exceeded 78.93 million as of Sunday, amid easing of mask recommendations in most parts of the country, according to the latest data released by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.
Specifically, the country's case count had risen to 78,937,817 with a death toll of 948,397 as of 19:21 Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Sunday.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has eased mask recommendations for the bulk of the country within a new framework that immediately affects about 70 percent of Americans.

The new guidelines suggest that 70 percent of Americans can now stop wearing masks, and no longer need to keep social distancing or avoid crowded indoor spaces. The change follows a relaxation of restrictions by most governors responding to nosediving case counts and public pressure.
