Sharjah 24: “Tom was not just a talented, dedicated photographer but he was truly remarkable and quite simply, the very best. I was always three steps behind him,” said acclaimed photojournalist and media expert Aidan Sullivan, while presenting a tribute to the extraordinary legacy of late British photographer, Tom Stoddart.
One of the most prolific and revered photojournalists of his generation, Tom Stoddart, who covered the war in Lebanon and the siege of Sarajevo, died of cancer in November 2021 at the age of 67.
Sullivan, who knew him for 45 years, remembered that Tom was always the first to arrive at a scene, take the most important pictures and “get that coveted front-page exclusive”. The intrepid photographer was “always ready to mentor and inspire young emerging talent despite being recognised as a giant in the industry,” said Sullivan.
A screening of some of Stoddart’s iconic images from the frontline followed Sullivan’s eulogy to the celebrated photographer.
