Sharjah 24 – WAM: Archbishop Edgar Pea Parra, Substitute of the Secretariat of State at the Vatican, opened the new Apostolic Nunciature in Abu Dhabi, in the presence of Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, Minister of Culture and Youth. The ceremony symbolises a new phase in UAE-Vatican diplomatic ties.
Omar Saif Ghobash, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for Cultural and Public Diplomacy, Alya Mohamed Almehrezi, Assistant Undersecretary for Protocols Affairs at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Bishop Paul Hinder, Apostolic Vicar for Southern Arabia, Monsignor Kryspin Dubiel, Chargé d'Affaires of the Apostolic Nunciature, and several other officials and members of the diplomatic corps attended the inauguration.
Archbishop Parra said,"the opening of the Vatican Embassy in Abu Dhabi exemplifies the longstanding connections between the two friendly governments. It is also the third anniversary of His Holiness Pope Francis and Grand Imam of Al Azhar, His Eminence Dr. Ahmed el Tayeb signing the Human Fraternity Document."
He added, “the ceremony also marks the 15th anniversary of the Vatican-UAE diplomatic ties”.
Parra ended his remarks by thanking His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
