House and BMW fail to sell at the Maradona auction

Sharjah 24 - AFP: A mansion and a BMW were left unsold in an online auction of 90 goods belonging to late football legend Diego Maradona, its organizer said Tuesday.
The December 19 auction was postponed after the most expensive items failed to attract bidders.

Following the initial three-hour auction, AFP calculated that the former Barcelona and Napoli star's goods valued over $1.4 million had received no bids.

By the new deadline, neither the $900,000 Buenos Aires residence Maradona gave his parents nor the $225,000 2017 BMW model had sold. A 2016 BMW sold for $165,000.

Bidders came from Latin America, Italy, France, Britain, Russia, and Dubai.

On the first auction day, a painting by artist Lu Sedova of the former World Cup winner fetched $2,150.

An image of Maradona with late Cuban leader Fidel Castro sold for $1,600 to a Dubai customer.

Other items sold included a Napoli team jacket, training pants and a box of Cuban cigars.

Mercado said he hoped to sell an apartment Maradona owned in Mar del Plata ($65,000), but no formal offer had been made.

He hoped the second BMW will get a bid soon.

This leaves only the 700 square meter (7500 square foot) Buenos Aires home where Maradona's parents lived for 30 years.

A judge ordered the sale to cover Maradona's estate's debts and expenses when he died of heart arrest on November 25, 2020, aged 60.
