IWAS approves agenda of its world competitions

Sharjah 24: The Khorfakkan city hosted the meetings of the Executive Office of the International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation (IWAS), organised by Al Thiqah Club for Handicapped and the Regional Office of IWAS, based in Sharjah.
The meeting saw the presence of Rudi Van Den Abbeele, IWAS President and Dr. Tariq Sultan bin Khadem, Vice Chairman of IWAS, and members of the IWAS. 

IWAS President thanked the Emirate of Sharjah, represented by the city of Khorfakkan, for hosting the IWAS meeting, expressing his pride in the distinguished organisation of meeting, noting that the next stage will witness the return of many major international activities and championships which will have a significant impact on the spread of IWAS.

During the meeting, the Executive Office discussed several topics including the IWAS 2022 to be held in Sochi, Russia, the IWAS 2023 to be hosted by Thailand, and the Beach Games 2022 in Spain. The meeting also discussed several other projects and the sports season’s budget 2021-2022.

Drز Tariq Sultan bin Khadem, Vice Chairman of IWAS, Vice Chairman of the UAE Paralympic Committee, and Chairman of Al Thiqah Club, welcomed the emirate’s guests, stressing that the emirate’s hosting of this important global agenda embodies the vision of Sharjah in particular and the UAE in general in integrating and empowering people with disabilities stemming from the unlimited support of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, a supporter of the disabled.

Bin Khadim added that hosting such an event will provide opportunities for transferring advanced expertise and experiences in the field of caring for the disabled, and deepening areas of cooperation with all international institutions and bodies from different countries of the world.

Bin Khadem explained that the Council is preparing strongly in order to restore the spirit to global activities that have been greatly affected by the Corona pandemic, as the next stage will witness the organization of many global competitions and the development of new activities that will be an attractive factor for people with disabilities at the global level.
