Sharjah 24: Sharjah Sports Council (SSC) launched the “Clubs’ Rationalisation Competition” under the slogan “I am a mentor athlete” on Wednesday, September 1st, 2021, where encouraging financial prizes were allocated as part of SSC keenness on the importance of rationalisation in the sports sector.
The Competition aims to raise awareness on the importance of the environment, the importance of water and electricity, the preservation and protection of resources which is the basis of SSC social responsibility, in coordination and cooperation with Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWGA).
The Competition will start from September 1st, 2021 to September 1st, 2022, coinciding with the start of the new sports season, with the participation of all 24 sports and specialised clubs in Sharjah. The competition aims at rationalizing the consumption of resources, raising public awareness on the benefits of applying sound practices to rationalise water and electricity resources, urging the sports community to adopt strategies for preserving the environment and energy efficiency, and motivating participants to adopt rationalisation practices.
His Excellency Issa Hilal Al Hazami, Chairman of Sharjah Sports Council, indicated that this competition comes in line with the vision of Sharjah as the capital of sports, including the culture of rationalisation. The competition is also one of the main social responsibilities of SSC and reflects the directives of H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of Sharjah Executive Council, by providing a healthy sports environment for Sharjah clubs, where the SSC organises the competition under the slogan “I am an athlete mentor”.
His Excellency Issa Hilal Al Hazami added that an integrated team has been formed including members from SSC and SEWGA to work on the details of the race and to supervise the various criteria, evaluation and final selection.
His Excellency Issa Hilal Al Hazami pointed that SSC supports all efforts aiming at disseminating the rationalisation culture, whereas the sports sector is important in Sharjah and plays a prominent role with various authorities and institutions in spreading the culture of rationalisation, and preserving natural resources.
Mr. Abdullah Abdul Rahman Al Shamsi, Director of the General Department of Institutional Support Services at SEWGA stated that the “Clubs’ Rationalisation Competition” launched by SSC in cooperation SEWGA under the slogan “I am a mentor athlete” aims to encourage the spirit of competition in the sports sectors and to raise individuals and institutions’ awareness of the importance of the optimum use of energy and water.
Mr. Abdullah Abdul Rahman Al Shamsi praised the role of SSC in guiding society and raising awareness on this important issue in terms of corporate social responsibility and adopting the best means that help reduce energy and water consumption and thus contribute to reducing global warming.
