Sharjah24 – AFP: A deadly fire broke out in a food factory in central Bangladesh killing at least two workers, officials said Friday while relatives alleged dozens remain missing.
Firefighters were trying to douse the fire for hours at Rupganj industrial town as the six-storey factory building stood burning. Clouds of smoke billowed as hundreds of relatives gathered near the factory to get updates.
"Our firefighters initially rescued 25 people from the rooftop. Once the fire is under control, we will conduct a search and rescue operation inside. Then we can confirm any further casualties if any," said Fire service spokesman Debashish Bardhan.
One factory worker who managed to escape the fire said: "On the third floor, gates on both stairwells were closed. Other colleagues are saying there were 48 people inside."
