Sharjah 24: Sharjah Government Employees Club (SGEC) launched the 9th Sharjah Chess Tournament for government institutions and departments employees, in collaboration with the Sharjah Cultural and Chess Club and under the supervision of Sharjah Sports Council (SSC).
Dr. Tariq Sultan bin Khadem, Chairman of SGEC Executive Committee, confirmed that the championship’s successes in the previous editions have attracted many players from all government institutions in the emirate.
Bin Khadem indicated that the championship, in its ninth edition, comes in exceptional circumstances facing the world in general, and the sports society in particular. He added that despite such circumstances, the Championship was included in the sports and cultural programmes and events organised by SGEC, which aims to develop the spirit of fair competition in a friendly atmosphere. Bin Khadem affirmed that it is a good opportunity to introduce the Club’s activities and events.
The Chairman of SGEC Executive Committee extended his thanks and appreciation to Sharjah Cultural and Chess Club for hosting the tournament and organising the technical aspects of the competition. He also praised the media that plays a major role in introducing society to the club's mission and goals.
Jamal Issa Al Midfa, Secretary-General of the Sharjah Cultural and Chess Club, praised the SGEC efforts to organise such events, which in turn introduce chess to various segments of the society.
