Sharjah 24: “Beloved children and youth of Sharjah; today, we are here for your sake, and will always endeavour to work for you. My sons and daughters, I want you to know that all what we do in Sharjah, is a genuine right for you and we seek no favour in return. Whatever we do, we still feel that we are required to do more. Therefore, we have launched Sharjah Children Parliament Council and Sharjah Youth Council. It is your very right to feel your worth in the society so that your belonging to it will be an aware and mindful choice.”
The words of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah came while addressing a ceremony of the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) in 2018.
Speaking sincerely fatherly to the children and youth of Sharjah, whom he loves and so do they share him the same, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah restated that all efforts and uninterrupted work are for the sake of his sons and daughters of today who are the men and women of the future. His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah was keen to reiterate the call to them, in the same sentence - this is a necessity and a beautiful linguistic use- to accentuate the importance of the topic and for the listeners to focus on it. He wants them to know and realise that everything their wise leadership does in this smiling emirate is their inherent right, and in that relies the highest honour and appreciation for a person to be revered among his family and his community.
These rights that Sharjah works on include all that a person needs to live a decently, receives the best education, and has an economically developed and socially united environment, in which the family finds all decent care and every concern for the safety and health of its members with no exception.
Sharjah is age-friendly, and it is an entitlement and a well-deserved honour that crowns all the efforts that the emirate has made in accordance with its strategy for the advancement of people in various walks of life. This unlimited interest and great concern from His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah reflects the extent and depth of belonging to this community, and His Highness’s concern for the future of his children whom he wants to receive the finest types of knowledge, science, and moral values on which this society is raised and accordingly adopt and trace. With this in mind, His Highness clarifies that the individual has a value that he should realise, and be conscious and aware of; that’s why His Highness has launched and established institutions that provide an integrated shaping for the individual to teach him how to discuss, how to accept opinions, how to dialogue, listen, research and think; and these qualities are the most important bases on which children should grow up as they are their pillars for the future, and their weapon for the coming days, which will be based on knowledge, progress and science.
Certainly, what His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah said gives an impression and reflects the well-advised and unerring vision, and the clear idea that children and youth are brought up with, while assuring them that whatever efforts Sharjah does, yet, there is more that needs to be done. For this reason, the Children and youth councils have been established. They are intended to give the children and the youth their literary and moral rights so that they could develop their thoughts and make the society sense their full worth to develop a true and authentic belonging to their society, which does its utmost for the sake of their development and advancement.
