Verma, Juan Pablo and Kamal highlight role of art in crises

Sharjah 24: Through a series of photos, the Indian photographer Ashok Verma wanted to show how a nation fights against a virus which is not even visible, and covers the efforts taken by UAE in this regard. He believes that, as a photojournalist, he has to do research to understand what he is going to shoot. It is his duty as a photographer to bring out facts and stories to convey his message to the people.
Juan Pablo explained that the message he is trying to convey is mainly hope. He wants to highlight the hope of miners in Colombia who are looking for the precious stones that will change their lives, but they have been working very hard for many years in vain. That is, by itself, is an example of the resilient he wants to reflect in his work.

K M Asad, an Independent documentary photographer from Bangladesh, said that he wanted, through his photography, to show what happens now and wanted to change what’s happening; he reflects people’s needs in his photojournalism.

Through his work, he wanted to depict the conditions of his country and how authorities deal with people, sending a message to authorities that people need security.

This came as part of their participation in the fifth edition of the International Photography Festival (Xposure), organised by the Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB) at Expo Centre, which concludes Saturday.
