Sharjah24 – KUNA: Japan reported 4,385 new cases of the coronavirus over the last 24 hours as of on Tuesday, raising the nation's total number to 295,095, the health ministry and local authorities said.
The country's cumulative death toll rose by 33 to 4,118. Tokyo added 970 new infections, dipping below 1,000 for the first time in eight days, which brought the total cases in the Japanese capital to 77,133.

The tallies exclude those who were linked to the virus-hit Diamond Princess cruise ship in February. Due to a recent surge in coronavirus infections in the Tokyo metropolitan area, the government last week declared a state of emergency for Tokyo, Saitama, Chiba and Kanagawa prefectures. Under the declaration, effective from Friday to Feb. 7, residents in the designated areas are encouraged to refrain from nonessential outings after 8 p.m. Restaurants and other establishments are also asked to close by 08:00 p.m. The government last declared the nationwide state of emergency in April for over a month.
